So De Villiers vs Very Big Island Day ended in a one all
draw. Early on in a game of homo-erotic hooliganism, also known as
rugby union, the Islanders displayed discipline and tenacity in the face
of relentless kicking possession away and handling errors. Very near
the end, with a slight lead, ferocious defense by the De Villiers people
seemed to secure the match. Only for normally consistent kicker,
Steyn, to blunder like an 11 year old in his first match. (I realise
this simile is somewhat unkind to 11 year olds) Being the proud race of
Iisland people that they are, the yellow tops kept going to the end and
scored a brilliant try to clinch the victory.
Meanwhile in
another time zone another De Villiers team did much better. Here the
obligatory Steyn performed up to his usual standards making the Islanders look somewhat ineffectual. It was left to 2 bowlers right at
the end to add a level of decency to the score that the proper batsmen
failed to do by regularly getting themselves out. Building on a decent enough
start the De Villiers's De Villiers come in to destroy the
opposition. It looked for all the world as if both teams had an earlier
flight in mind when the winning runs were scored 9 overs before the
end.
